The deadly combination of smaller donation amounts and fewer people donating can lead a charity to bankruptcy. As a result, non-profits must find new ways to keep their organizations running and increase incoming donations.
Some of Baltimore lesser-known non-profits are struggling to survive the ongoing recession.
While fundraising is never easy, it is especially difficult when people have less money to give away. Charity-funded causes do not go away just because money does. Therefore, if charities are going to win the fight against the recession, they are going to have to get creative.
“Giving up is not an option,” fundraising director Kristina Berdan said. “There’s a line in the song What a Feeling from the movie Flashdance that says ‘Take your passion, make it happen,’ so that’s what we’re going to do.”
